Christopher McQuairre (I soliti sospetti) ha scritto la sceneggiatura di X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2, basata vagamente sulla miniserie a fumetti degli anni ottanta scritta da Chris Claremont e Frank Miller.
Nel comic Wolverine si dirige in Giappone per seguire la sua amante Mariko Yashida. When he arrives, he discovers that she was forced to marry a cold businessman who abuses her. Wolverine tries to help you escape antagonizing Mariko's father, Lord Shingen Harada, who drugs him and challenges him to a duel, but Logan still managed to defeat him. In this miniseries Wolverine is also facing The Hand (La Mano), the criminal cult made up of the ninja.
Unlike the comics, Wolverine has a romance with an actress in Japan. It is unclear whether the protagonist is the daughter of a criminal or married to a violent man.

Aronofsky became the director of X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2. Filming starts in March 2011 in New York and after the completion of the sound stage production will move to Japan.
